General Mills Supports Cupcakes for a CauseTM

GENERAL MILLS BAKERIES & FOODSERVICE SUPPORTS RETAIL BAKERIES’ PARTICIPATION IN CANCERCARE FOR KIDS® CUPCAKES FOR A CAUSETM
MINNEAPOLIS (Oct. 2, 2006) – General Mills Bakeries & Foodservice is supporting retail bakeries who participate in Cupcakes for a CauseTM. This nationwide sale of baked goods runs Oct. 16-22 and benefits CancerCare for Kids®, which provides free support services for children and their families who are affected by cancer.
General Mills will donate one free 50-pound bag of Baker’s Plus cake mix to participating retail bakeries who agree to donate at least $150 from their cupcake sales to the CancerCare for Kids program.
General Mills, named this year’s “Angel Food Cake” sponsor,will also donate $10,000 to CancerCare and host a cupcake sale Oct. 16 and 17 at its corporate headquarters in Minneapolis to raise additional funds for the organization.
“CancerCare is thankful for General Mills’ donation to Cupcakes for a Cause and the CancerCare for Kids program,” said Diane Blum, executive director, CancerCare. “General Mills’ Angel Food Cake sponsorship helps children and their families cope with a cancer diagnosis. The company has shown additional dedication to the cause by hosting their own bake sales and providing free cake mix for participating bakeries.”

Founded in 1944, CancerCare is the oldest and largest organization providing free professional counseling, educational programs, financial assistance and practical help to people with cancer, their loved ones, and health care professionals across the country. CancerCare’s professionally trained oncology social workers address the complex needs of children affected by cancer and their families through the CancerCare for Kids program. This year, the CancerCare for Kids program will provide services to more than 1,000 families.
